Kellie told the Banner-Herald that seeing shows there and getting to know the entertainers served as the inspiration for ASG. According to Kellie, ASG missed only two months last year at the beginning of the COVID pandemic before pivoting to virtual shows, which proved to be a success right away.

Kellie said viewers ordered food and paid for drinks for the entertainers in addition to sending tips via smartphone. ASG began putting on events at Sound Track in February, first virtually and then in person when safety restrictions began to lift.

Assistant show director Jenn Sparx said the masked events were "a bit awkward" in the beginning, but audiences and entertainers quickly adjusted. Sparx's first time onstage was at the Boybutante amateur competition in New to Athens at the time, Sparx was urged by friends to enter and ended up winning a spot at that year's Boybutante Ball at the 40 Watt Club.

Kellie said she and Sparx choose each week's lineup based on who didn't get on the bill for the previous show, and reach out to those who express interest in being part of the next one.
